Outreach & Recruitment Coordinator

Aspire Afterschool Learning is seeking a full-time Outreach & Recruitment Coordinator to support the 1.) Recruitment, enrollment, and onboarding of AmeriCorps Service Members, and 2.) Community outreach and engagement. The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion and skill for attracting and recruiting AmeriCorps Members, managing recruitment and onboarding processes, and building and sustaining meaningful relationships.

Aspire Afterschool Learning (formerly Greenbrier Learning Center) is a non-profit organization based in South Arlington. Aspire provides robust, comprehensive, and high-quality afterschool and summer academic enrichment to historically underserved 3rd – 8th grade students. Our programs support and connect students, families, schools, and communities while using evidence-based methods to achieve results for students most impacted by the educational opportunity gap. Over 90% of our students improve their reading levels each year with our support.

What You’ll Do

Ongoing and robust AmeriCorps and volunteer recruitment is crucial to fulfilling Aspire’s mission as we grow to serve more students, without compromising our high-quality and individualized programs. The Coordinator will report to the AmeriCorps & Public Grants Manager and will work in close collaboration with a small team. This is a dynamic position where the focus and intensity of various responsibilities will fluctuate throughout the year, providing opportunities for growth and exposure to multiple recruitment, outreach, engagement, human resources, and administrative functions. The position is responsible for the following, but not limited to:

AmeriCorps Member Recruitment and Outreach (approximately 40%)

  • With equity and access as a guiding value, enhance and build new recruitment and outreach strategies, pipelines, and platforms to ensure Aspire is attracting applicants reflective of the communities we serve.
  • Regularly post Aspire’s AmeriCorps Member openings on multiple online job sites and within the community; track response rates to identify effectiveness/return on investment and identify additional job/community sites and strategies.
  • Actively monitor applications and engage with interested candidates in a timely manner, including responding to candidates’ questions, screening candidates’ qualifications and interests, and coordinating interviews.
  • Identify, actively pursue, and build relationships with community organizations, Arlington Public Schools, and local universities within the Arlington and DMV community that enhances Aspire’s AmeriCorps recruitment efforts generally, and the communities we serve.

AmeriCorps Member Enrollment, Onboarding, and Retention (approximately 30%)

  • Support the onboarding of new AmeriCorps members and the annual AmeriCorps orientation
  • Administer background checks and onboarding documents for new AmeriCorps members
  • Maintain AmeriCorps Member files to ensure proper documentation of training, license, and grant compliance.
  • Assist with research and implementation to enhance AmeriCorps Member experience and retention
  • Inform and assist with the professional development opportunities for AmeriCorps members

Community Engagement (approximately 30%)

  • Identify and attend opportunities to connect with the Arlington community with the goal of increasing Aspire’s AmeriCorps recruitment, volunteerism, and partnerships, including but not limited to community events, business and corporate events, and high school and college fairs and events
  • Maintain a database for potential AmeriCorps Members and volunteers identified through outreach
  • Work closely with the AmeriCorps & Public Grant Manager, the Development and Communications Team, and the AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator to ensure timely follow-up of identified leads

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED Diploma or relevant work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • 2-3 Years of related experience
  • Ability to follow and improve systems and processes
  • Ability to travel to community events in DC/Northern Virginia, occasional evening and weekend hours required

This is a hybrid position and allows for a mix of in-person, flexible, and remote work/hours. This position is full-time with a beginning salary of $45K. We also offer a monthly health insurance stipend, 403b plan, flexible work schedule, positive working environment and culture, values-driven work, gym membership at Arlington Mill Community Center, 15 vacation days during your first year of employment, 13 holidays, 5 wellness days, and time off with pay during the Arlington Public Schools designated winter holiday break.
