Development and Communications Administrative Intern
Position Description
Aspire Afterschool Learning is a non-profit providing holistic afterschool and summer academic enrichment programs for historically underserved 3rd – 8th grade students in South Arlington, Virginia. The Development and Communications Administrative Intern (10 hr/wk) will be part of the team that develops and implements communications strategies that support our fundraising goals, engages supporters, and raises awareness of Aspire’s programs to achieve our mission.
Applicants for this position should be highly organized, strong writers, and detail-oriented. They should have excellent communication skills and the ability to think creatively, work collaboratively, and work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Applicants should also have a deep commitment to closing the educational opportunity gap.
This position is great for someone who has a passion for learning more about nonprofit work, communicating our work with the community, and supporting younger students in Arlington, as well as anyone looking to give back to their community or gain professional experience.
Please note that this internship is open to Arlington Public Schools Students only.
What You’ll Do…
The Development and Communications Admin Intern will report to the Development and Communications Director. Working closely with our small staff team, the Intern will be responsible for the following:
- Maintain accurate and organized donor and subscriber records, as well as digital files and records in shared systems (Google Suite, Microsoft Suite)
- Develop a standard procedure for entering individual donor touchpoints into Aspire’s database so that information can be better tracked, analyzed, and reported
- Assist with the logistics of organizing events, including Aspire’s fall fundraising gala via emailing guests for ticket/meal preferences, sponsors for ticket/logo information, and organizing print materials like nametags
- Support Aspire’s donor cultivation efforts through activities such as writing thank you notes
- Assist in creating and distributing materials that raise awareness about the mission, current work, and latest stories from Aspire (ex: Annual Report, e-newsletters, social media, print materials)
- Conduct research on additional ways Aspire can promote our presence in the community and connect with new audiences
- Provide logistical and general administrative support for the Aspire team, including taking meeting notes
Who You Are…
- Arlington Public Schools student
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail and deadlines
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
- Technology unafraid and good working knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite, and Canva
- Highly adaptable with the ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a small and cohesive team in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Looking to gain marketable, hands-on experience in the nonprofit field
